Penistone

This is a non-drop ride, so no one will be left behind! We'll take all day if we have to! Suitable for all levels, but is on dirt/technical terrain in some parts, so some bike handling skills are necessary. This is a good opportunity to try some off-road cycling and enjoy some hidden gems!

About the event

All of our events are open to cis and trans women, and non-binary people who are comfortable in an environment that centres the experience of women.

This is a non-drop ride, so no one will be left behind! We'll take all day if we have to! Suitable for all levels, but is on dirt/technical terrain in some parts, so some bike handling skills are necessary. This is a good opportunity to try some off-road cycling and enjoy some of the hidden gems North Sheffield has to offer! The route does include some on-road sections, so please be aware there will be traffic.

The route starts along the Upper Don Trail which is a false flat (0.8% gradient) to get the legs spinning and blood pumping so this will count as warmup. The route also finishes on the trail so we will have a little cool down too. There is no cafe stop unfortunately but we will take a quick break outside Bolsterstone Village Hall which is a rough halfway point. Be sure to bring plenty of snacks and hydration!

Start points: We will be meeting at Cycle Penistone C.I.C from 9am onwards for 9.30am set off. There is parking available at the location. However ride leader (Nadia) will be setting off from Cote Green Car Park (link below) at 8.15am, for an optional extra 5 miles to Penistone.

There is also the option to meet the group along the The Upper Don Trail if you wish, please enquire in the whatsapp groups for more info.    Gravel, Hardtail, Hybrid or Full Suspension bikes welcome. If you're not sure if your bike is suitable, we suggest a 700c tyre with a width of 32mm and above for gravel cycling. Feel free to ask in the whatsapp groups for advice if you're still unsure.

This is a self-supported ride you will need to have everything you need on you to complete the ride and be able to make any repairs, i.e punctures or tube changes, yourself. Please bring plenty of nutrition to sustain yourself for a whole day.

(Meet group along route at Magic Wood Cafe) Dunford Bridge:   https://goo.gl/maps/xdpnBtzsmi7Ji423A

*PLEASE NOTE* If you choose a different start point the route will still finish at Penistone, you will have to make your own way back to your chosen start point once the group disperses (unless you finish at Wortley).

*ADDITIONAL INFO*  Ride leader (Nadia) will pre-ride the route on Saturday 22nd January to double check the directions and trail conditions. If you would like to participate in the pre-ride or part of the route, just ask! The ride is also subject to weather conditions, and whilst we love a good challenge, we don't think it's suitable to send riders down icy tracks. If we have to postpone due to weather, we will update the invite to reflect any changes. We look forward to riding with you!
